La confianza no viene en una botella. No puedes comprarlo. No puedes venderlo. No puedes atraparlo ni gan\u00e1rtelo. La confianza viene de adentro. Por eso, queremos contarte la historia de Eleanor, de seis a\u00f1os, o Ellie Belle, como la llama cari\u00f1osamente su madre.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

La madre de Eleanor, Virginia, enfermera de la UCIN y madre primeriza, tuvo un embarazo normal: los antojos habituales, el aumento de peso t\u00edpico y otros desaf\u00edos diversos que conlleva el embarazo. Lo que Virginia no sab\u00eda era el desaf\u00edo que vendr\u00eda despu\u00e9s de su embarazo.<\/p>\n

Eleanor naci\u00f3 una fresca tarde de octubre. Y al principio, se parec\u00eda a cualquier otra ni\u00f1a reci\u00e9n nacida normal y sana: diez dedos, diez dedos de los pies, pulmones sanos y una cabeza de cabello casta\u00f1o. Pero hubo algo diferente que Virginia, el m\u00e9dico y otras enfermeras notaron. Su ojo izquierdo no se abr\u00eda. \u00bfEstaba hinchado?<\/p>\n

Tras un examen m\u00e1s detenido, se descubri\u00f3 que el ojo de la reci\u00e9n nacida Eleanor no era estructuralmente correcto. Y fue entonces cuando Virginia escuch\u00f3 el diagn\u00f3stico: microftalmia. Hab\u00eda o\u00eddo hablar de ella en la escuela de enfermer\u00eda y hab\u00eda visto im\u00e1genes en los libros de texto, pero a\u00fan no se hab\u00eda encontrado con la enfermedad en su carrera profesional. Pero aqu\u00ed estaba ... con su propio hijo primog\u00e9nito.<\/p>\n

El hospital recomend\u00f3 un ocularista local y comenz\u00f3 el viaje de tratamiento de Eleanor. Comenz\u00f3 su tratamiento recibiendo un conformador cada cuatro meses para que eventualmente pudiera recibir una pr\u00f3tesis ocular completa. Y Leonor comenz\u00f3 a usar lentes a los nueve meses; pod\u00eda ver bien con el ojo derecho, pero no con el izquierdo.<\/p>\n

El m\u00e9dico realizar\u00eda ex\u00e1menes de la vista con Eleanor bajo anestesia. Estos ex\u00e1menes se volvieron cada vez m\u00e1s estresantes a medida que Eleanor crec\u00eda. Pero Virginia no sab\u00eda que hab\u00eda diferentes opciones para el tratamiento de su hija. Fue solo cuando el ocularista tratante de Eleanor anunci\u00f3 su retiro que Virginia comenz\u00f3 a buscar en otra parte y encontr\u00f3 Carolina Eye Prosthetics.<\/p>\n

Conduciendo de Goldsboro a Burlington, Eleanor y su madre hacen un viaje completo cada vez y se quedan con la familia cercana.<\/p>\n

\u201cSe siente muy bien y se ve muy bien, y la mayor\u00eda de los ni\u00f1os ni siquiera saben que hay algo diferente en ella\u201d, dijo Virginia. "Y cuando se saca el ojo prot\u00e9sico, dice con seguridad: 'Este es mi ojo de Jes\u00fas'".<\/p>\n
